Women are now spending more time online than men, according to a study conducted by UK communications regulator Ofcom. Looking at internet users between the ages of 25 and 49, the study found that women now account for 55 percent of the time spent online by all users. James Thickett, director of research for Ofcom, credits the rise in online activity by females to the availability of more gender-relevant content as well as social networking websites. Health and wellbeing sites are also popular among women, who account for 78 percent of users on MSN’s health and wellness website. Analysts are predicting a trickle-down effect to mainstream media regarding programming for women, should the trend continue.Read more
